January fishing in Key West, fl.

Report Date: January 24, 2013

With the winter weather pushing through south Florida we are seeing cooler water temps on the flats. This is paving the way for red hot barracuda fishing. These barracuda push up into the shallows looking for food. As the water cools down the bait fish head to the flats. So the bait go shallow and the barracuda follow the bait. Sight fishing for the barracuda on the flats is great fun. Tube lures seem to work best. The tube lure has been used for years to fish for barracuda on the flats. Who would of guessed a 10 inch piece of sugical tubing with a couple of 5/0 hook would catch so many fish. A high speed retrieve and accurate casting, leads the way for some exciting fish strikes. Its all visual on the flats. The barracudas once hooked.....make super fast runs and often jumped. Truth be told, you never know what to expect from a barracuda once hooked.
If you have never fished the flats in Key West, Florida? You are missing out.
