February fishing in the Florida Keys.

Report Date: February 20, 2013

As the winter cold front are getting further apart, the water is warming up. Which means great things on the flats.
Permit~ they love the 72 degree water. Swimming the flats in search of crabs. On a good day you might get a dozen or more shots a catching a permit. Keep in mind these fish are in search of crabs on the flats, however, they are very wearly and spooky on the flats. They come to feed and bring some attitude with em.
Definitely the hardest fish to catch on the flats in my opinion. However, the pay off is great once you do hook a fish. The permit fishery in Key West, Flordia is fantastic. Whether you are chasing them with a fly rod, or throwing live crabs. A humbling and satisfying challenge for any angler.
