Bonefish Key West

Report Date: July 20, 2014

Breaking the cycle of tarpon fishing we have opted to spend a few days chasing the elusive bonefish.
The Bonefish population in Key West is coming back stronger than ever. About five years ago South Florida had a very harsh winter. New records were set for coldest air temperatures. Unfortunately state wide there was a large fish kill. Included in this was hatchlings of all species of fish.
Unknown at the time the Florida Keys Bonefish population would be hit hardest. Many and or most of these shallow water fish found in the shallow flats off Key West require stable and tropical like water temperatures. Fast and drastic temperature changes can harm and or kill these fish.
Studies I have read make notation of the fishes liver function shutting down. Thus killing the fish.
Anyhow, getting back on track here, the bonefishing in Key West has been great so far this July.
