fishing our way through fantasy fest in Key West
Report Date: October 28, 2008
Fishing in Key West from fantasy fest through November has been good. We have been dealing with a little bit of wind down hear in Key West from the occasional cold front. Yet for the most part thing have been right on track.
The first week of the month was real cold, however, after the warm up I did manage to find a few bonefish. Not as many as I would have liked to see, however, the water did get cold fast on the early cold fronts. The ones we did manage to find an catch had been of descent size.
Permit have been found on most days. Fairly consistent I would say, at least on the days I did look for them. The bigger fish seem to be showing up on the flats once again. It seems to me over the years I have realized a definite pattern of these fish. The late summer and fall month there are not as many large fish on the flats.. Lots of fish, however, not the large or extra large permit.
Tarpon….Well what do I say about these guys. Definitely not predictable. I still find them, here and there, yet of the three slammer fish these guys are the least consistent. Time of year has everything to do with this. It late fall so this is of no surprise to me that there are not tons of tarpon available.
On the upside, the cold fronts have cooled down the water enough to push some of the Barracuda and larger shark on the the shallow flats. The backcountry and or creek fishing has picked up considerably in the last couple of weeks. This is primarily due to the cooler water temps. Driving the bait into the shallows.
My only advice is catch fish and have fun…..
