Fishing for Fish in Key West?

September turned out to be a great month for Tarpon. I Found some fresh fish that had pushed in from the Gulf of Mexico. My anglers had lots of fun fishing these fish on fly tackle or spinning tackle. As usual down here in the lower Keys, you can find a school of Tarpon somewhere, might take a few hours or a few spots, however, if you do manage to find a school of these wonderful fish called Tarpon, and are fortunate enough to hook up, I assure you the wait is worth it in the end.

Still great Permit fishing particularly earlier in the day before the water heats up, or on a fresh flood tide from the deep. Flood tides in the summer often have a potential for cooler water. This can bode well for flats that seem particularly void from life. Keep in mind when considering the water temp. where you may be fishing the flats in the summer. As with a good bottle of red wine at room temp. If your house is 74 degrees you can bet the wine will be around 74 degrees. Just like on the flat, on a hot summer day. If the air temp. is 90 degrees you can bet the water on the flats is in the upper 80 degree mark.

No conversation or mention of hot summer weather would be finished if I did not mention those elusive Bonefish. They love the hot water. September did also produce some great Bonefish action for my customers. Late Sept. and into October can be great Bonefishing down here in Key West.
