Fishing Key West, you just never know.
Report Date: February 27, 2007
February offers some great fishing in Key West, Florida. Warm days can provide you with terrific fishing opportunity. Tarpon, Permit, Barracuda, and Bonefish. The creek or back country fishing can be out of sight as well. I’ve started using lots of surface poppers either fly or spinning rods to go after the assorted fish that we catch in the back country. This is a very exciting technique and thus far seems to be a productive way to fish when the conditions are right for this tactic.
Good customers of mine found this out while one morning we came across a large school of Jack crevaile and managed to catch one after another on surface poppers. This way of fishing is high action fishing. If you get luck you may even get to witness a six foot Blacktip Shark go air born after a popper. Carter Melton found this out twice on his most recent fishing trip with me in Key West, Florida. As he told me, you know Lenny this is what is so great about fishing down here in Key West, on the flats or in the back country. You just never know what type of fish you can catch.
Over all fishing in Key West was good in the month of February. Customer of mine caught many large Barracuda, quite a few Permit, we even managed to jump some Tarpon on those extra nice days. I think we even caught some Bonefish. Lot and lots of big Shark we caught. The Shark fishing is always good in February down here in Key West.
I still have Tarpon dates for Spring and Summer.
