Hurricane and tropical storms impact Key West

Down here in Key West, Fl. we have almost made it through another hurricane season. September was not the best as far as tropical storm go, however, in between the less than desirable weather the fishing was good.
Bonefishing was strong, finding more fish in new territories. Just another reminder of how important the net banning was to the fisheries in south Florida.
Permit and tarpon fishing was a little above average. The water temperature stayed cooler this September due to all the tropical storms. The big storm have a tremendous impact on the turning over of the water in the oceans. Imagine a mixing bowl filled with cake mix like the ocean and the big wave and tidal pushed are the spoon, turning and folding the bottom toward the top. In short: waters near the ocean floor which are cooler, are agitated and brought toward the surface. Rain also has a tendency to cool of the water. Although we don’t like storms they a great for the ocean and they can have a positive affect on the fishery which is not always as noticeable as the negative.
