Key West flats fishing
Report Date: January 19, 2012
After a 4 day cold front the winds have turned to the east. Which means warm air, warmer water and lots of fish.
Took a ride this morning out the ship channel toward the reef and was happy to discover, plenty of bonita, and black fin tunas busting bait. Great fly rod action!!!!!
After a few hours of this we headed inshore to the flats.
Fishing on the flats was red hot. Lots of barracuda, shark, and plenty of permit. These warm up days after a cold front often times produce epic fishing. These fish have been sitting in deeper water waiting to come push back up on the flats to feed.
Although as a guide the cold front days make you mad when your sitting on the dock due to high winds, in the end, this weather is what keeps the winter fishing so productive on the flats in Key West.
