tarpon fishing key west
Report Date: April 28, 2009
April has proved once again to be a good month for great spring tarpon action in the Keys. The wind was a problem; however, if you managed to tough it out you were pleased with the results. Not all days were spectacular, however, good enough to keep busy.
The month of May thus far has been good. We are still waiting for a large push of our migratory fish; however, if you work at searching for fish, you will be pleased with the results. There are still plenty of fish cruising the ocean side. Just not the huge schools of tarpon. I had a great many days where we jumped at least four fish or more. I think the fishing has been good as these customers have been positing good numbers. In most cases I have been using traditional flies, the cockroach and coker smoker. For my spin customer they have been pitching live crabs.
Fly tackle or spin tackle. I enjoy fishing both types of anglers. I fish different for on than the other; however, with any luck the end result is catching fish. If you have never fished tarpon in the lower keys and Key West, you have no idea what you are missing.
